How do you get rid of the creases and wrinkles in the batting after you remove it from the packaging? |
|
| |
We recommend letting it lay out for a 24 hours and throwing it in the dryer. High loft batting may have harder to remove creases, in that case you can lightly mist the batting with water and then put in the dryer for 15 minutes on low heat. |

Can you wash our pillows? |
|
| |
First we would recommend spot cleaning. Secondly, it would be best if you make the pillow so that you can remove the pillow insert and just wash the pillow cover. If you must wash the whole pillow you can, just in the washer NOT the dryer. Add a towel in with the pillow while in the washer. That will help the machine stay balanced. Let it air dry on a drying rack. Allow ample time to dry. You can toss it in the dryer for a couple minutes when it is just about dry and that will get the excess moisture out and fluff it up a bit. |

Should not be used in toys for children under the age of 5.
Not recommended for pet beds.
Not meant for use in a washing machine or dryer.

The best idea is to make a bladder and remove the cover and wash only the cover. (ex. miney's)
These items will not hold heat, so we do not recommend they go in a microwave.

Why does my batting bunch? |
| |
| |
Normally because it has not been quilted closely enough. Quilting should be at least 2 to 4 inches on all battings. Your quilt should be basted or pinned securely before quilting. Quilting should be from the center of a quilt, outward in concentric circles. |

What is the difference between needlepunched and bonded? |
| |
| |
|
Needlepunched vs. bonded - refers to the manufacturing method used to hold the fibers in a blanket form. All batting is made from loose fiber. To hold the fiber together in a sheet form, needles penetrate the fiber mass, entangling the fibers. This is known as Needlepunch process. The bonded batting has a spray coating on both sides to hold it in a sheet form or low melt fibers are combined with another fiber mixture and the batting is cured to produce a bond.

Do I need to presoak my cotton battings? |
| |
| |
No, you do not need to pre-soak. We do recommend laying them out overnight to let the "folds" fall out. If you must "fluff up" - use a dryer sheet for just a short period of time in the dryer. Our cotton battings have less than 2% shrinkage factor (which is the industry standard). If you want to presoak to avoid any shrinkage - please see "presoaking batting" on the QuiltCare page. What do I do about fiber migration and bearding? |
| |
| |
Prior to making your quilt, select a fabric with a high thread count and quilt at least 2 to 4 inches apart. When quilting dark colored fabrics, it is best to use a bonded batting. Remember the 3 "B's" - "Bonded Batting Doesn't Beard And Bearding's Bad ." Migration happens when the batting separates or "bunches up" inside the quilted channels. Fairfield battings do not migrate.

Can POLY-PELLETS ® be heated? |
| |
| |
|
They do not retain heat and this is not a recommended use for poly-pellets. |
| |
| |
| |
| |
Use long blade scissors for pieces up to 2 inches thick. For greater thickness, use a utility knife. The large rotary cutter will also work on any of the sizes. (You can draw a line, score, rescore, etc., and trim).
|
| |
| |
|
Why doesn't POLY-FIL ® batting come in dark colors? |
| |
| |
|
Placing any colored batting behind fabric will dull the fabric colors. The dark batting (or fiberfill) will not prevent bearding |
