June

June is another busy month…

Hopefully, by now you have finished the quilt you were making for that special graduate and it's time to start putting together some craft projects to entertain the kids while they are on summer vacation.

June 14 th , Flag Day, is the birthday of our star spangled banner.

And don't forget, June 17 th is Father's Day.  Wouldn't it be nice to create a hand made surprise for that most special man in your life?

June 21 st is the summer solstice.  Put on your shorts and head outside for the first official day of summer and the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

To-Do List to prepare for summer:
Purchase new Sunscreen
The leftovers from last summer are not as effective as you want them to be for safe summer usage.  Use at least an SPF 15 and don't forget to apply it each time you head outside.  The new aerosol types are great for kids due to their easy application.
New Beach Towels
Why not purchase some bright and cheerful new towels for the beach or pool?
Water Bottles
This is a great time to get new water bottle for the kids and adults, too.  Think about color coding them for each member of the family.  Fill and place them in the freezer for a few hours before you head out to the pool. They'll stay nice and cold longer this way.
Bike Check
Kids love to ride bikes in the summer and this is the perfect time to check them and make certain they are in safe working condition.  It's also the perfect time to check your child's bicycle helmet.
Tick Checks
They are not just in the woods.  They can easily jump from the grass and be brought inside your home by your pets so be certain to check yourself and your children each night before bedtime.

Did you know that June is named after the Roman goddess Juno, wife of Jupiter? Juno was the "Queen of the Gods", equivalent to the Greek goddess Hera.

The Beach Tote bag is a great June project to make for upcoming beach excursions. This unique beach pillows has pockets to store suntan lotion and other small beach accessories.

Trendy Ideas by Catherine
Consider making some of your summer wardrobe. I've seen lots of patterns for cute and flowy summer skirts; hats to protect you from the sun; and cool halter and tank tops.  Make them from the newest fabrics found in Quilt Shops!  Know what you want but can't find it in the stores? Why not give making it yourself a try?

Spring Quilt Market was a wonderful success. This years show took place in the beautiful setting of Salt Lake City, UT, known for its warm and sunny May days. This year it managed to rain for what seemed like the entire week but the poor weather didn't stop the quilters from coming out in numbers to view the amazing quilts that were on display. To see some of these quilts online, you can go to

We hope you enjoyed this month's issue of the Fairfield Gazette. We've already begun working on July's issue. Enjoy the nice weather!
