Karen is a self taught quilter with a background in drawing. Starting with traditional quilts in 1988, she gradually moved towards free-form designs. Karen relies on lines and color to convey feelings of light, energy and movement in her art quilts.
Her art quilts have gained recognition in international quilt shows, traveling exhibitions and museum exhibits. Several of Karen’s commissioned pieces can be seen at the Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, NY. Her curved pieced and topstitched quilts have been ribbon winners and finalists at the American Quilter’s Society show, the International Quilt Festival show and the “Quilts=Art=Quilts” held at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, NY. The American Quilter Magazine featured Karen’s article on “Accidental Landscapes - A Workshop in Layered Curves and Peaks” in the Summer 2003 issue, and “Topstitch Piecing – A Recipe for Free Form Curves” in the Spring 2000 issue. |
