Hollis was born in Pennsylvania but has lived most of her adult life in Switzerland and in four West African countries. Hollis went to Africa with the Peace Corps in 1980.
She came back to the states in 1996 and is currently living and working in Hillsborough, North Carolina.
Hollis started her career as a textile artist in Africa. Her interest was sparked by the
richness and beauty of African fabrics that are so integral to the everyday life of the area. Her distinctive use of imagery in her dye painted scenes of African life have brought her
international attention. Hollis lectures and teaches and her quilts are featured in many prominent collections.

“The twelve years that I lived in Africa have deeply influenced me. Six months after moving back to the United States, my longing for Africa was so great that I started to paint African images in order to put me back into the life I loved so much. This has helped me to deal with no longer being on that continent, and it has been my way of saying good bye to a people I truly admire and respect.”

Hollis used our own “Cotton Classic” batting inside “Market Girl” and has used our “Soft Touch” batting in many of her quilts.
